Cupping isn’t just for athletes

Over the past few weeks during the Olympics, you may have seen many of the athletes like gold medalist Michael Phelps with dark circles that look like bruises on their backs and shoulders. The circles are not from a giant octopus attack. The circles are the result of cupping treatment.

Although just recently getting exposure because of the Olympics, cupping is a few thousand years old. Athletes use it to increase circulation, reduce inflammation and loosen tight muscles and recover from strenuous muscle activity.

A few Eastern Wind Acupuncture patients do cupping treatments for a variety of ailments.

For non athletes, cupping treatments can be used for back and neck pain, joint pain, headaches, migraines, reducing inflammation, detoxing the body and menstrual irregularities.

Cupping doesn’t require any needles and although it does leave marks, most people find it to be a painless experience. A number of Eastern Wind Acupuncture patients do cupping treatments for a variety of ailments and as part of a general wellness program. Give cupping a try for yourself!
